International soccer can now be found on the screen of your Nintendo Game Boy Color in THQ's FIFA 2000. Take one of more than 60 international teams and play in five different modes. Assume the role of coach and make decisions on strategy and player substitutions as you lead your club to victory. To get your feet wet, you can start with an exhibition between two countries. Before heading out onto the field, you can select your strategy, coverage and formation for your team along with players for each position. Each player is rated in one of 13 different categories; these carry much more weight if you play in Sim Mode rather than Action Mode. After the coin toss, it's time for kick-off. As in real world soccer, you can tackle opposing players, pass the ball long or short to teammates, and take corner kicks, throw ins and free kicks. Overly aggressive play can result in referee discipline, which can include expulsion from the match, depending on how strict their foul-calling is set before the game. Once the contest is over, you can move on to tournament play, which is similar to the World Cup. You choose a team to take through a series of matches; the teams with the most points then move on to the playoffs (which are also selectable by themselves if you want to bypass the first round of play) and the championship. If you want to play a league, you can select a team which joins seven others in a season which consists of two games against each of the other clubs. A win is three points while a tie is one point; the winner is the team with the most points at the end of the season. Passwords are available during tournament, playoff and league play which allow you to return to the same game later. For a change of pace, you can also play indoor soccer, which takes place on artificial turf with teams composed of five players each.
